Not Without Effort

Our Branch has had the theme, "Not Without Effort" for the past month. During this time we were challenged to apply this to our lives. I on several occasions when doing various task had this cross my mind, not without effort. I was able to discuss it with friends from the branch and get their opinions on it, I read articles about it, I truly tried to apply it to my life. I thought it was a great way to look at life. Yesterday was the 5th Sunday meaning combined Relief Society/Priesthood and we were discussing this topic.
So I go to church and I'm sitting in Sacrament meeting. The speakers were both so good. The talks were great. But if the talks were so great why was I all of suddenly going crazy. I was sitting there thinking about our theme, not without effort, and I was actually becoming a little upset. I have been putting forth a lot of effort in my life and was feeling like I was not getting any return. The closing hymn was where can I turn for peace, a song I love so much that I blogged about it in May/June. This got me all emotional and while I don't mind emotional I do mind it at church. I go to teach my Sunday School lesson and I'm still trying to shake these feelings that I know I should not be having. Then we have our combined meeting and while this whole month I have been applying it, I'm still feeling not to happy. I was so frustrated. They then gave us a challenge. S.T.O.M.P, single's testing out Moroni's promise, they want us to read the entire Book of Mormon in the next 90 days. With the concept that miracles with happen within our own lives and within the branch as a unit.
I left with my check off list of the scriptures, got in my car and started on my drive home. I had a lot of thoughts going crazy in my head. I started thinking about all this effort I had already put in. I read my scriptures, I pray, I attend all my church meetings, I go to the temple on a regular basis and I feel as if most of the time I am a good person. So where are my miracles, where are these supposed blessings. Then it led me to think about the effort of dating. I went several years where I had no desire to get married thus I did not need to date. I have never seen a marriage in which I felt was worth it so why should I try. Then I realized it is a commandment and my patriarchal blessings states it is the most important thing I can do in this life, to get married in the temple. So I decided not long before my 27th birthday that I would no longer feel that way and that I would put a little effort into it, mostly meaning I would not say no, I would start going to the single's branch, etc. This was not easy for me. I was very comfortable in my life. So here I am putting forth all this "effort" and for what, a goal I may or may not want. But it's a commandment.
I know at this point I am sounding really negative but the more I thought about it the more I knew I was being selfish. I have some "return" on my efforts. And even if I don't get the blessings I feel I need, I am getting the blessings the Lord sees fit for me to have. S.T.O.M.P started today and I started my reading this morning. I don't know what to expect from this but I know that it will be good. I will continue to put forth the effort. Because this life is a test. And as all you know, I am very competitive and I like to score high.

Memphis' Tribute to Michael Jackson

Saturday night we did attend a Michael Jackson Tribute concert and it was absolutely fantastic. It was a great time. I went with awesome people, the music was fantastic. There were good times had by all. Love it! Ernestine, Me, and Julie. Love these Ladies!
Sara, Julie and Ernie. I love this picture.

Not really sure what we are doing. I love how some are making faces while others are smiling.

The Whole Group!

Mama E (that would be Ernie's mom), Sara, Julie, Ernie, Brenna, Me, and Megan.

MiSUnDeSToOd

I am currently feeling MiSUnDeSToOd. Do you understand what I am saying? I don't want any confusion here!

Oscar Wilde said, "I am but too conscious of the fact that we are born in an age when only the dull are treated seriously, and I live in terror of not being misunderstood." Hello, Oscar, I completely understand you.

Then I was thinking about sometimes I think things are hilirious, drop dead funny. I love to laugh. But I was talking to a friend Sunday, one of the only people that I like even when they are putting me in my place, and he said, "Just because it's funny, doesn't make it okay to say". And he happens to be one of the funniest people I know. So since then I'm trying to have more of a filter. This does not mean that I will not say these funny things that pop into my head but I will be more cautious about who I say them about. Some people can handle teasing while others can not.

Ugh

3 quick things:
1) I don't care how much you dislike a person/people in someone else's family, it's better just to keep your mouth shut. Because I can almost promise you they don't feel the same way as you do on the subject. That's a quick way to loose friends.
2) You are either someone's friend or you are not.
3) Most men are douchebags, Bouchedaggery is rampant lately. I'm pretty sure this was not my original 3rd thing but whatever it was left me.
K, I hope everyone is having a fantastic Saturday. I'm off to the temple, then to chill with my family, going to dinner with friends, then I have a Michael Jackson tribute concert to attend. Gotta love life. I brought my camera so hopefully there will be pictures.

Summer of Friendship

As you all know, I have lifelong friends. Friends I've had for forever. People I can always depend on. Unfortunately these people all live in different states. In the past I've been fine having friends so far away and have not really made friends where I live. But this summer was different. This summer was an answer to a prayer that I did not expect.
This summer was one of the best I've had in a long time. I appreciate the lessons I learned and the people that helped me learn them. I thought the summer was going to suck but it turned out to be next to awesome. I had almost forgotten that life could be that fun and you could even be carefree sometimes. I had gotten into the rut of, I'm a grown up and don't have time for this trivial stuff. I made friends that I appreciate. Some of these people were put into my life for only a brief time, they helped me get past things, they taught me things I needed to learn and now they are gone. Their purpose was served.
Some I believe I will be friends with for a very long time. These people are fun, witty, can be sarcastic, but they are understanding and know how to be a friend. They are highly opinionated people who will/do tell me just the way it is. I love these people.
There is Julie. Julie is an awesome girl. She just graduated from BYU-Idaho and moved here to work at the federal reserve, there is a branch in Memphis. She is such a fun girl and we can laugh nonstop. We have very similar personalities and that is fun. I was told by another friend, Cassidy, that I should be her friend. So I told him to text me her phone number and we became friends. I'm sure we would have eventually became friends without Cassidy's help but I'm glad he encouraged it.
Then there is Ernestine. She's been in the branch the whole time I've been in the branch. Most of you know that I am not easily intimidated, but Ernie, she definitely intimidated me. But Ive been hanging out with her this summer and I love her. Like I seriously love her. I know that sometimes she thinks I'm a bit wacky and maybe a little crazy but I think she loves me too. She's the type of person you could tell anything to and know that it's safe with her. She reminds me a lot of my friend Candice. They both have these looks that they give that say it all. I'm super glad we've become friends.
Cassidy, is one of the cutest guys ever. I love this kid and that is kind of what he is. He's young but he's hilarious. He use to constantly say, can I tell you something without you getting mad, and I would get super worried about what he was about to say, then he would say I love you. He also sent a text once saying SEITCGE. I had no idea what that meant so I spent forever googling it. I like to seem like I know just about everything. He finally told me what it meant, Sandra Eaton Is The Coolest Girl Ever. I love him and not just because he thinks I'm cool.
Then there is Josh. He's a great friend and taught me a lot this summer. Like forreal he did. I appreciate him for this. He's probably one of those that is just in my life for a season but it was a good season. He made me laugh, relax, etc. He was a great listener and just a genuinely good guy. He for the most part was an awesome communicator and when I was with him I never felt bad about myself. Cassidy says, when he has a decision to make he thinks, WWJD, What Would Josh Do, and does the opposite. Josh will always choose the fun way. I'm pretty sure if it came down to studying or partying he would choose the later. I can honestly credit most of my great summer to Josh, thanks!
Those are a few of the people from my summer. People I love and appreciate. It's a strange mix of people, we are all so different, but because of them I feel better. Better about me, better about life, and better about the future. A prayer was answered when I met these people at this time in my life.

Average Marriage Age
I was chatting with a friend who I will leave unnamed and the conversation of older young single adults came up. So I decided to do some research. I know right, I am a bit boring, but don't act like you don't secretly like it. So here are a few stats. I had to put the lightning stat in just because of that line in sleepless in Seattle (I think it's from this movie) about women being more likely to get hit by lightning than to get married after a certain age.

*According to the U.S. National Weather Service, the odds of being struck by lightning -- in your lifetime -- are 1 in 5,000.
*Overall, the Mormon divorce rate appears to be no different from the average American divorce rate. A 1999 study by Barna Research of nearly 4,000 U.S. adults showed that 24% of Mormon marriages end in divorce -- a number statistically equal to the divorce rate among all Americans. About 26% of both Mormons and non-Mormons had experienced at least one divorce at some time during their life. So in case you think these numbers don't match up you are reading it wrong. That's at least one divorce when you factor in multiple divorces the average goes up to around 50%.
*An article predicted that women after 30 only had a 20 percent chance of getting married. For women over 40, those chances plummeted to 2.6 percent. Interesting, very interesting.
*In the bad old days — alas, as recently as the 1980s — a woman with a graduate degree was 16% less likely to be married by age 44 than a woman with a high school diploma. Now, while 55% of women with graduate degrees marry by age 29 vs. 61% of other women, after 30, the odds reverse. A single, 30-year-old woman with a graduate degree has about a 75% chance
*Odds of winning the powerball are 1 in 146,107,962.00.

What the ?@#!*

I'm sitting in my office trying to figure out a schedule for the classes for a program I have coming in. I am getting very frustrated because I am having a hard time staying focused. I have been working on this schedule for 3 days now. I have to get it done.

Frustrate: To prevent from accomplishing a purpose or fulfilling a desire; thwart
Do you ever have those days where you are just not feeling it? Where your plans are constantly getting messed up. People are frustrating you and your life goals. This is making me feel a little anti-everything. This sounds extreme right? It is, but I am frustrated and I'm mostly frustrated with myself. I am the reason my plans keep getting frustrated. And I am beginning to the think that the best way to be would be to have no plans at all. I see these kinda of people all the time, the type that have no purpose or aim, being completely happy. But I've always been goal oriented and have generally found this to be a good quality. But now I am doubting this.
I found an old journal entry. Have you ever sat back and read old journal entries. The entry I read was not long after a bigger event in my life and I was stressed, feeling a bit down. As I read it all I could think was who was that girl in that entry. She was not me because I would NEVER get stressed over what she was stressed about now. It left me wondering if in 10 years I'll read things that I write now and say the same thing, I would never stress over that now.
I am anti- not saying how you feel. If you feel it, why not say it. (Nope, I don't always do this. Most of the time when it should be said I let it pass by because I'm a wuss but still)
I am anti- fakeness. Just be real. People will like you more.
I am anti- bashing. What's the point, it betters no one.
I am anti- vulnerability. Yea, maybe this is bad but I'm if you let yourself become vulnerable you leave yourself wide open to become hurt. And I just don't want to take that chance in my life right now.
Anyways, I better get back to work. I have so much to get done and very little motivation to get it done. Oh well, what can I do. At least I have a job and I am self sufficient. I guess there are a few good things to being a grown up.

What if this is it?

There has been a lot going on in my life lately. Some things that I wish would vanish out of my life and then there are some that I am so grateful for. Lately, I've found myself wondering what if this is life? Am I okay with this being my forever? And I'm not sure what I think about it. Most days I am perfectly content with my life. I'm a natural worry. I worry about things that I should just let go and see how it works out. I generally overanalyze everything. But while I am overanalyzing and worrying I'm also pretty happy.
I wish that I was the type of person who didn't worry about the future/tomorrow. I'm very detailed oriented and while I don't need to know things exactly I would like to have an idea of what is going on. I wish magic 8 balls were more accurate. I guess it would help if I actually figured out what I wanted in life. I think that would be a step in the right direction. Sometimes I think as soon as I have that figured out then something changes where I can't have it. Anyways, just a thought. I am wanting to plan to a few school programs. I am both excited and nervous when I think about going back to school. I am trying to remember that my future is only as bright as my faith. Heaven help my faith to be bright!

Hate Love

So today I was looking some stuff up on the Internet and I came across this,

“Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life...You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like 'maybe we should be just friends' turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love.”
I kinda fell in love with this quote. No I have not thought I've been in love recently, not even close but this is the exact way I feel about relationships in general whether you love the person or not. And in the end it all comes down to you opening yourself up becoming vulnerable then getting disappointed. And the most dreaded words in any language, "Maybe we should just be friends", "I'm just not feeling it", "It's not you, it's me", etc etc. Yep that's right. Just thought I would share with all of you.

Happy Happy Birthday Candice Dear

So, today is Candice's 28th birthday. Wow, she is OLD! Just kidding. Candice has been my friend for just about as long as I can remember. Her mom made her invite me to her birthday party and my mom made me go and man alive am I glad that it went down like that. Moms are so smart!
Candice is one of the most beautiful, smart, witty, funny people I know. We always have something to talk about, boys, and it's never often enough. She completely understands this point in my life and I appreciate her for it. I call her for advice, a lot. I have a friend that says, "you don't ask fat people for dieting advice or single people for dating advice", yea right, Candice is my person I call about dating. She is like a dating guru.
I have tons of fun memories with Candice and I mean tons. She is one of my best friends. Her life is so exciting and fun. She lives in New York City now, being all glamorous and stuff, and she was made for it. I am looking for a plane ticket to go and visit her in October. While I love visiting NYC, I love visiting Candice more.
I know she has big things in store, just remember me after these big things occur. Thanks Candice for being my best friend. You are the best. Happy 28th birthday. I have a feeling that this is going to be the best year yet. I can just feel it. Love you!

Lucky

I love Dr. Suess. I love him so much that I already plan on reading his books to my kids. In, Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are, it says, When you think things are bad, when you feel sour and blue, when you start to get mad....you should do what I do! Just tell yourself, Duckie, you're really quite lucky! Some people are much more... oh, ever so much more...oh, muchly much-much more unlucky than you!
I love it. This is so true. There is always someone else who as it worse than you. Someone that would be grateful to trade spots with you. I've been trying lately when I want to complain to think about this. I ask myself if it is really that bad. I believe it's made a a bit of a better person. Because we are each put in circumstances that try us. Maybe your family situation is not good, maybe your dating life sucks, maybe your testimony is being challenged, or maybe you don't even know what is going on but you know that it is hard.
I am a very blessed person but with that being said, I have been going through my own personal trials. I don't expect people to understand or even try but I do expect people to not be so judgemental. I received a phone call last night that was a bit frustrating. You see, it was one of those phone calls that leave you feeling very misunderstood. I have a hard time understand why someone who used to admire you could now feel so much angst towards you. You wonder how peoples opinions of you change so drastically. Especially because I feel as if I have made a concerted effort to be a better person. I don't talk bad about people (or I try very hard not to), I've been making an effort to be friends with people I wouldn't normally hang out with, etc. I'm not saying I am perfect, I am so very far from it but I have been trying to be considerate of others.
I know I have aggravated a few people in the past few months, maybe some people feel like I haven't been the best friend, but seriously people, I am trying. And if for some reason I have hurt you, I am really sorry. Please talk to me about it. I can't help you feel differently if you don't tell me there is a problem.
The other thing I need to say is, this blog is for me to be able to be open with how I feel. It's not always going to be rosy and cheery, seeing as I am not always rosy and cheery. It's going to be about my life, my feelings, etc. Maybe that is selfish but it is my blog. If you read it, keep that in mind. If I say something that strikes a nerve, feel free to comment, or to call, but don't just sit there and be sad/frustrated etc. COMMUNICATION people, It's KEY!
Love you all lots. Seriously, I do love you. I even love you people who read this and I am not even aware that you read it.

Charity's Wedding Weekend

That's right, my BABY sister got married this past weekend. It was crazy, it was insane, it was a bit stressful and it was purely beautiful. I am so happy for her! What a great weekend we had. Here is a picture of all the siblings. I love it, and in case you aren't super familiar with my family, this is in birth order. Growing up I never thought Charity would get married before me but as we all know, life is full of these kind of surprises. She's only 8 years younger than me. Then this is the whole family! Brothers, Sisters, Parents, Wives, Husbands, all the kids, and lets not forget my papaw and his wife. If I might say so, we have a pretty good looking family. Everyone looked absolutely beautiful/handsome. The worst part of the whole weekend was that it was like 10000 degree's outside. It was so hot. And the shirts that Charity had us wear did not breath. And with my hair down, I thought few times I might die.
When at the temple I was able to go into the bridal room with Charity. Me and Beck were in there with her for a while by ourselves and it was awesome. Then it got even better when Renee, Amy, and Kara joined us. This was all the women in my family besides my mom. It was such sweet sister time. I was so grateful at that moment that these were the women I would be spending eternity with. They are strong women who choose the right. I'm so lucky to have my sisters as my sisters and my brothers could not have chosen better wives and I gladly count these two women among my best friends. I truly consider them sisters too.
Charity went through the temple Thursday night. It was awesome to sit in the temple with all my family except James and Kara. James had a lab that night that he had to do and Kara's recommend needed to be updated. We missed them but we have eternity all sealed together so it's all good. Friday night we had a cook out with Rob's family. I guess you could consider it a meet and greet. We had it at a friends house, Mary. We grilled out, swam, just had a great time. Josh came up for the weekend and things went absolutely great. I don't know if it was because my family was so focused on the wedding or what but they really didn't tease THAT much. We had a lot of fun. That night all the boys went to see GI Joe. By the time they got back I was asleep. I actually might have been almost asleep before they left.
Saturday morning came, we got up, got dressed, then Beck and I went and picked Josh up from where he was staying, went to the mall, ate, then headed to the temple. I've already talked about Saturday but it was awesome. Bringing a date to a wedding/reception I got lots of questions.
So funny Sunday story. Josh stayed and went to church with me in Jackson. During Sunday School the teacher at the beginning asked if there were any new people. Josh was getting ready to stand when the teacher said, "Sister Eaton, I'm not sure what you go by any longer but will you introduce you and your husband", I quickly stated that I still went by Sister Eaton, then he said, "oh for how much longer, a week or two", then Josh stood and introduced himself and said he was here visiting for the weekend for my sister's wedding. I should have been embarrassed but really I wasn't. He's not really the freak out type of guy so there was no point in stressing over it. He came over after church, we made dinner, hung out for a while, then he left.

Nine Words Women Use

So I had an email in my box from Chad Ross that stated he didn't have Michael and Robert's email addresses but Mandy had mine and he wanted me to forward this to them. I enjoyed it so much that I thought I would share it with all of you.
NINE WORDS WOMEN USE
Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.
Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.
Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.
Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!
Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)
That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.
Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or faint. Just say you're welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless she says 'Thanks a lot' - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say 'you're welcome' . that will bring on a 'whatever').
Whatever: Is a woman's way of saying GO TO HELL
Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'What's wrong?' For the woman's response refer to # 3.

Who is this Sandra Eaton

I'm been thinking about "knowing" oneself. Do I know me? Do I know what I want? Does this sound crazy to all of you? Maybe one should ask, how could you not know yourself. I'm not really sure where I am going with this. I was just thinking about how maybe things change when you are around certain people.
For instance, when I am at work I am work Sandra. Work Sandra is somewhat insecure around her peers yet pretends to be completely confident. I am assertive, I get the job done. I'm thinking most of the school does not love me, especially after my new food policy yesterday, but I pretend like I don't care. Then there is church Sandra. She's a pretty outgoing girl. She is friends with everyone but doesn't feel that any of them are maybe true friends. She talks to them, she laughs, she's even sometimes funny. She is confident, etc. Dating Sandra is my least favorite. Sometimes I even wonder what her problem is. She can be really ackward. But then again I think that all depends on who I date. Maybe we all adapt ourselves a bit depending on who we are with.
I know who I am in the sense that I am a daughter of God. I know my favorite colors (and yes they periodically change!), I know my favorite food, etc. But sometimes I adapt my favorite activities. I don't go from extremes, I don't pretend I love sports but I can enjoy them. Are they how I would choose to spend my nights, no, mostly because I don't like the heat. But I enjoy doing things that the person/people I am with enjoy doing.
This blog isn't what I was expecting it to be. It isn't what I was trying to write. I don't know what I am trying to say. I guess Sandra Eaton confuses me. She changes her mind a lot. As soon as she thinks she has it all figured out, she realizes she doesn't. The older I get the less I pretend to know. There are tons of people that I know that I can learn from. I'm trying to do my best. I'm living my life. And yes, right now I am really happy. This has nothing to do with any boy/s. It has to do with me. I have a choice everyday to make it a great day or not. I am choicing for it to be great. I am in charge of my happiness.
Anyways, if ya'll know who I am, let me know. I'm always up for a little life coaching. I think Michael said he would do it for a small fee and my first born. Then again, I doubt he would really take my first born. There is no way my kids could be as cute as his.

When did this happen

I had big plans to play this summer. I had every intention of playing hard, living life, and moving on. And I mostly did. I worked June (Mon-Thurs) but still found myself in Memphis most nights and would stay Thursday - Sunday night every week. I made lots of new friends and had tons of fun. I had the month of July off which made it even easier to play.
During this time I became pretty good friends with a group that I call the Oxford boys. They are super chill, non judgemental, etc. I freakin love these guys. Anyways, there is one in particular that I like. It's kinda weird because when we became friends he had a girlfriend who I wanted him to break up with so he could date one of my friends. She's a super cool girl and he's a super cool guy so it would have just worked. I even remember saying to her at some point that I would never date him.
Well, I have been known to eat my words and while we aren't dating, I really like this boy. And this goes against my current life plan. We went on a date as I mentioned last friday and we hung out monday. This past weekend he came to Jackson to hang out after Charity's bridal shower. We went and rented movies, got snacks, then we went back to my house and hung out. I love how cool he is. He didn't freak out about hanging out at my house with my family. He was super cool around my family. And to me I want the people I'm hanging out with, boy or girl, to know my family. They are my favorite people so I want everyone to know them too. It was so much fun. After he left I drove to Memphis, that's right, I got to memphis at 3am and got to sleep by 3:30. I had to get up Saturday morning at 6:30.
Saturday night there was a group of people that got together in Oxford. I drove down and must admit that at first, I was not having a good time. I felt pretty grumpy and figured it was because I had very little sleep. I decided to take a nap so I went back to Josh's bed to lay down. There was already one person on his bed and one on the floor. I opted to crawl into the bed. I wish I could say I took a nap but not long after I came in, maybe like 5 other people joined us. I can't complain because it is what made the night turn around and we had so much fun.
But here's the whole purpose of this blog, I've changed my mind. When Josh and I first started talking, I was going in just for fun and I'm pretty sure he was too. I knew he was moving so I could just play and at the end we'd call it fun, he would leave and life would resume. But I actually like this boy. I didn't realize it until this week and I'm not sure what I'm wanting out of this but I do like him. Yesterday at church one of the girls that was there Saturday night asked about "us" and I being the private person I am said "we are having fun." Then she said I was his rebound girl and that he was my rebound guy. But that's really not true, I don't do rebounds. And I was a bit offended by it.
So, he leaves this weekend. He's moving! Something that I have known since we became friends. When did those friendly feelings, those we are just going to play feelings change? I'm not really sure. There are things about him that drive me absolutely crazy. I can make list of his faults but I really don't want to. Because there would be no point. Not to mention he's got even more positive things. I'm not going to be heartbroken when he leaves. There would be no point. I'm just going to be appreciative of the short amount of time we got to hang out. It stinks that I have work this week so it's hard to get to hang out together, we do live 2 hours apart. We are both planning on going to FHE tonight. We are going to go to the Redbirds game on Tuesday night. Then I'll see him this weekend, then he's gone. Just like that. In my life and out of it, but worth it. This is the perfect example of "bad timing".
All I can say is life is funny and it makes my laugh. And I like it.
