NYC

Brent and I had the chance to take a weekend trip to NYC. We actually drove to New Jersey (17 hours from Memphis) and visit Michael and Amy's family. We drove all day Friday, went into the city Saturday and Sunday, and started the drive home Monday, with Seth and Sydney, and finished the drive Tuesday. I'm glad we went but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone currently miserable. Here are some pictures.

It was so nice having Amy with us

Maybe my favorite part of the trip. Seeing Candice. She is always so gorgeous.

Sunday we all went into the city together.

The kids making their chocolate. I love the facial expressions here.

We love our nieces and nephews. We also went to the M&M store.

It rained the entire day. On Time Square

Who is in charge here

Once, a long time ago I asked Brent who the boss was, you know, the head of this household. And he said me (meaning him) and I said do you know why you are the boss. He asked why and I said because I let you be the boss. And since that day we tease about this often. While to others Brent and I may seem very boring, we laugh a lot with each other. We find ourselves very entertaining. I'm a pretty funny person and Brent gets this. And sometimes I'm not funny but just ridiculous which we usually laugh about too. Anyways, that is all very off topic.
While Brent is definitely the head of our household I think someone else is already becoming boss. And it's not me. It's this little 5.5-6 inch baby growing inside me. How can it be boss already some may ask. I'll tell you.......it runs my life! Note I didn't say ruins but runs. It tells me exactly when to eat. It wakes me up whenever it feels like it. For example, Brent kisses my bye every morning on my forehead or cheek and every morning it wakes me up. This morning I'd been waking up a lot but Brent gave me the kiss around 7 and I felt the need to eat. I had a rough night sleeping, again, the kids chooses when I sleep too, so I wanted to lay in bed for another 15-20 minutes. No biggie, right? WRONG, as soon as I stood up I had to run to the bathroom! A mad dash. Ugh, I usually don't throw up in the morning. And while I was in there sick, I started talking out loud to this sweet dear little one saying, "Baby, I know we need to eat, but I can't make it to the kitchen if I can't stop being sick......so, please calm down for a minute and mommy will feed you." I swear the kid understood and I was able to go fix some oatmeal for the both of us.
Another way the baby is in charge and I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I don't eat peanut butter any more because the baby decided we don't like it. Say what?!?!?! I use to say if I ever had a kid with peanut allergies it would be hard to choose. That is how much I love peanut butter but now it repulses me.
The baby runs Brent's life too. The kid decides when it's okay for daddy to kiss mommy. The kid decides daddy can't be in the bed with mommy until we are asleep already.
We had an ultrasound this week and the tech said our baby was stubborn. I wonder what side of the family that comes from. The kid refused to give us a good shot of anything and only wanted to be face down and not show us an anatomy. Silly baby, mommy needs you to be good. Or else you may be an only child.

Change

When first finding out I was pregnant, I knew things would change. I knew my body would change, that my emotions may run a little higher, that life would not be the same. I've known lots of pregnant people but for some reason I thought I'd be different. I've heard plenty of them say that being pregnant is not cute. I've always thought being pregnant was cute until now. And now I just feel extremely fat and ugly! I know some of this is because I gained weight prepregnancy but some of it is definitely the baby. When your clothes stop fitting, it's depressing. I can't imagine me ever posting a picture on purpose of the fat. I'm looking forward to the baby getting here so I can diet!
Then there's the fact that no matter how much I love Brent, he makes me nauseous. He is so kind and so understanding. He rubs my back ALL THE TIME, but sometimes it makes me feel worse and I have to ask him to leave the room until I'm asleep. It makes me feel like a horrible wife. I've always been a very affectionate person. I love touching but now....not so much. Kissing can only be done at certain times of the day. I also feel like a horrible wife because I haven't cooked for him in months. Touching food makes me feel so sick. Sometimes, just opening the freezer makes me throw up. And I don't keep our apartment as clean. I want too but it doesn't always happen. I have the time and I do a little every day but not tons. Like today I am doing laundry and I'll dust. Yesterday I vacuumed and did the trash.
And what about these crazy emotions. Like the other night I was lying in bed and all of sudden the tears came. Brent asked what was wrong, and I couldn't think of a single thing being wrong. I think I was crying because I didn't feel well. I'm so grateful to be married to such a wonderful man. I am a very lucky girl. With this being said, one day I cried because I was no longer single. That's crazy right, I was single for 29 years! During those years I wanted to be married. And then all of suddenly, I decide I want to be single still. Maybe I associated being single with feeling well, having fun, etc etc. How ungrateful was I? I'm crying now just from writing this. I remember when others were pregnant and they would complain to me, I'd say, "it's only 9 months of your life then you get a baby and a lifetime of joy and memories with that child." Renee reminded me of that the other day. I cried one day because I didn't want to watch what was on TV....I was home alone and could change the channel if I wanted too.
With all this being said, I'm glad I'm married! I'm glad I get the opportunity to be a mother. I try not to complain because I know plenty of people who want children and don't have them. I'm lucky that this baby will have Brent as a daddy. I'm lucky to have Brent as a husband. We are really happy. And I'm not as sick as I was, I only feel sick about 40-50% of the time.

I'm back to blogging....maybe

So, I know it's been a while since I've really blogged.....too long. I stopped blogging for a while because I was so dang sick and tired that I barely had the energy to go to work, much less try to keep the blogging world up to date on my life adventures. Not to mention, I've been really boring lately! I know right, when did that happen? If I had to take a guess I'd guess some time around November 24th :).

So I've decided to blog again. It may not be life changing but it's a good way for me to document our lives. It's crazy to say "our", for so long I was documenting my life. But it is surely a nice change and it's definitely fun living with someone who you like so much. And I sure do like him.

As everyone knows, we've been busy with the whole baby making business, well okay, that part didn't keep us too busy, but I've been busy letting this kid use my body as a host to grow. And growing a baby is hard work.

So, I'll blog and you don't judge!

Brent's Fishing Experience

I tried to get Brent to update this for me and these were his words, "It was good." I wasn't there so I can't say too much about it. I stayed in the house where there is cool air and good food. Dad asked Brent if he wanted to "wet a hook" and Brent obliged. Brent was never a big fisher, not a lot of opportunity, but we are determined to make a country man out of him yet. Of course, the only fishing poles they had to use were the barbie one and the spiderman one. They weren't gone too long but Brent caught 3 and dad caught 0! It must have been the spiderman fishing pole. I imagine one day Brent will take our kids to the same small pond and fish. Most of my nieces and nephews have fished in it, all my brothers and sisters and I have and I can only assume future generations will. It's fun to think of it that way. I know whether we live here or not, we'll definitely visit a lot and let our kids experience the way I grew up. I didn't always embrace it, I don't like to get too hot but I'm glad that I had the chance to live in the country. It was full of good times and adventures.
