February 27, 2013, the day you were born, was a cold dark
day. Dark, in that, your mom and I had to get up at 4:30 in the morning to go
to the hospital in preparation for your arrival. We arrived there at 5:30, both
of us very tired from not getting much sleep the night before. We were very
excited to see you and maybe just a little nervous, as you will find out when
you become a mother yourself. Every child is a joy to have, but if you are
anything like me, you worry just a little bit for each of your children. But
that’s normal, I think. Anyways, we checked into the hospital and got our room,
I finally met the doctor for the first time, who was very good. Finally, they
took your mom away to prep her for surgery, which left me alone in the room to
wait and wait and wait. Luckily, I wasn’t as nervous this time waiting – maybe
it was cause I went through this already with your brother, but mostly, I
believe, it was cause Heavenly Father blessed me to be calm. I knew everything
was going to be all right.
Finally, they came and got me and mom smiled at me when I came
in. They were working on getting you out and I sat with mommy and held her
hand. After just a little while, we heard you…and boy did we hear you! You came
out screaming like non other. Even the doctor and nurses were impressed. I
don’t think they have heard a more “healthy pair of lungs” as you had. You did
not want to leave mommy, that was for sure. You also hated them cleaning you up
and weighing you.
You were born at 8:03am and were 8 pounds 7 ounces and were
20.5 inches long. You looked a lot like your brother did when he was a newborn,
but don’t worry, all newborns look similar and I know you won’t look like a boy
the rest of your life. I was proud to call you my daughter and I hope you will be
proud to call me dad. I got to spend about an hour just holding you while they
finished cleaning up your mom. It was the highlight of my day that day.
So that is my memory of the day you were born. You were
perfect and will always be so in my eyes, no matter what you do. And I promise
you, as long as I live, I will always take care of you. I hope to give you as
many opportunities as possible to help you grow physically and spiritually and
to help you develop skills and talents that will benefit you and others
throughout your life. I hope that you will pursue an education and get a
college degree. I hope for you that you will find a man that will treat you as
the princess and daughter of God that you are. I hope you take the time to be a
mother, for there is no greater thing in this life than to create a life and
influence him/her for good. But what I hope for you the most is that you will
always remember that I love you and your Father-in-Heaven loves you always and
no matter what and that you can always turn to both of us for help.
Take care, my beautiful daughter
Love, your Daddy

That is a very sweet letter to Madelynn, Brent. She will always treasure it and be grateful that you wrote it to her. It warms my heart to read of your tender feelings for your children. I hope you realize that that is exactly how your dad and I felt when you were born and every day since. Even though you are a grown man with 2 children of your own, my mother's heart still thinks of you as my "baby." I am proud of the man you have become. Take good care of Sandra and your little ones. I love you all. Mom
